The International Unicode Consortium is the organization responsible for: maintain and regulate the official catalog of emojis used in mobile applications, and has just released Unicode version 15.0 of its standard, including: 31 new emoji of the total of the 271 who wanted to present it in 2022including in some cases different color variations of the same emoji.
The new emojis contain a pink heart or the emblem of Wi-Fi or wireless connections
Based on the design guidelines for each of these emoticons, the different developers or platforms can create their own versions. Google just published theirs, shown in the image above.
A hand pushing, an agitated face showing the impact a news story has on the user, the pink icon of a heart, the emblem of wifi or wireless connections… are some of the newest emojis.
Some of these incorporations are not entirely unprecedented, as some of them could have been known in their primitive stages last July. Now that they have been officially approved by the Unicode consortium, it is up to the different developers to implement their own versions, adapted to the style that emojis have in each application or platform.
Operating systems, social networks, programs… subtle differences or major differences in design and appearance, in all cases the message of the emoji is preserved, even with these small variations. In the case of Google, in addition to its version of the 31 new emojis, it has also made it public the new Noto font, specifically for use on web pagesso developers can easily implement it in their projects.
In addition, Google has released its first set of animated emoji to be used in the platform’s messaging application. Finally, it has been announced that the new emojis will be available in the Android operating system by the end of this year and in other Google products from 2023.
The rest of the platforms and ecosystems (Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Samsung…) will implement their own versions of these new emojis and they will be announced in the coming months.
