Participants keep coming to the calls “Stream Wars”the struggle for subscribers (and for the public, which do not always go hand in hand) between the different platforms for the distribution of audiovisual content over the Internet.

Paramount and Universal have more than 10,000 hours of movie and series content together

The list of available streaming platforms in Spain is getting longer: Acorn TV, Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV+, Atresplayer Premium, Barça TV, Crunchyroll, DAZN, Discovery +, Disney+, Eurosports, Filmin, FlixOlé, Footers, FuboTV, Hayu, HBO Max, iQuiyi, Movistar+, Mitele Plus, Mubi, Netflix, Planet Horror, RakutenTV, Realmadrid TV, RTVE play, Spamflix, Somos Cine TV, Starzplay… but it’s constantly growing, especially with the integration of new platforms which arise, as in this case, from the fusion of two film histories with a long tradition also of television products.

Universal Studios planet Earth is connected to the mountaintop of Paramount Studios and, along with two other brands, references in television such as Sky and Showtime come together in Spain under the name SkyShowtime. And while at the moment the date when this new streaming platform will go live in Spain is not specified, it does point to the first quarter of 2023.

In other European countries, such as Italy, the landing of this platform is imminent, already on September 15, although it will happen in that area under the name Paramount+. A few days later, and already under the name SkyShowtime, it will be available in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Before the end of the year it will start its activities in the Netherlands and already pHe will arrive in Spain at the beginning of 2023 together with Andorra and several Eastern European countries.

As for the price of the subscription, it has not yet been specified, but it is known that in Finland it will have a price of 6.99 euros, which gives us an indicative idea of the price it will have in the rest of the European countries where it can be contracted.

As for the combined offerings of the Paramount and Universal film and series funds, this represents over 10,000 hours of content, and relative to distribution windows (the time elapsed from a movie’s theatrical release to its presence on the DVD/BluRay rental or purchase market or its arrival on streaming platforms or television networks), periods of only 30/45 days between theatrical release and streaming premiere.
